Today, I had the distinct honor and privilege of returning to a place that shaped the person I am today: Dertu Primary School, now transitioning into Dertu Comprehensive School. Walking through those gates wasn't just a political visit for me; it was a homecoming. As an alumnus of this noble institution, I do not just view the challenges facing our education system through statistical lenses or standard political rhetoric. I feel them personally. I have sat in those classrooms, shared those aspirations, and I understand the unique educational landscape of our ward better than anyone else. During my visit, I was delighted to spend time with our primary learners, supporting their extracurricular development by providing sports balls. Physical education is a cornerstone of holistic growth, and our children deserve every opportunity to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Beyond the students, the heart of any school lies in its faculty. I held extensive, productive discussions with our dedicated teachers to critically assess current education standards and identify immediate areas of need. Their resilience is inspiring, but they cannot do it alone. Policy must be driven by frontline realities, and our dialogue today has laid a firm foundation for how we will uplift academic performance across the ward. This visit was just the beginning. I have firmly assured the school administration, teachers, and students that this is a sustainable partnership. In my upcoming visits, I will be delivering a more robust package of essential educational resources to bridge current gaps. To the people of our ward: education remains the greatest equalizer. Having walked this path myself, I am uniquely positioned and deeply committed to ensuring that every child in Dertu and across the ward receives the quality education they rightfully deserve.
