@vintagehollywoodstars: 72 years ago today, the best show in television history premiered. “I Love Lucy”originally aired on CBS from October 15, 1951, to May 6, 1957, with a total of 180 half-hour episodes, spanning six seasons. I Love Lucy became the most-watched show in the United States in four of its six seasons and it was the first to end its run at the top of the Nielsen ratings. There was a study done in Toledo that during ‘I Love Lucy’, the water usage went down by 13 percent and then after the show ended on Monday night it went up by 21 percent. This was one of the first TV shows to be filmed in Hollywood, at a time when many shows were done live in New York. It pioneered the use of three film cameras simultaneously, and the results were high-quality prints of a classic comedy series preserved for future TV audiences.
