Fellow paramedics told his family he refused to leave and that as an Arab, he felt ‘he could somehow mediate with the attackers,’ according to the AP. ‘He said, ‘No, I’m not leaving. I speak Arabic, I think I can manage,’’ his cousin Mohammad Darawshe told the AP. Darawshe’s family has lived in Iksal, a small #Arab-majority village southeast of Nazareth, for generations. Palestinian Arabs living in Israel—approx 20% of the population—face widespread discrimination. Darawshe was also called a ‘hero’ by the Israeli Foreign Ministry in a social media post. ‘May his memory be a blessing,’ it added. At least 260 Israelis were killed at the Tribe of Nova festival, and more than 1,300 died altogether during the Oct 7 attack.
