@floriangadsby: These skinny pourers are the bane of my life to throw. There’s probably not quite enough clay in them and the final few pulls always end up being a mixture of squeezing the rim finer and constant collaring in, but they get to the right height eventually, marked by my throwing gauge’s pointer that juts in from the right, (made by @darrenellispottery). Not only is throwing tricky but due to the fact these have a protruding spout, this means that turning them is troublesome too, so the upper sections of wall are made especially thin as I won’t be able to trim them easily once leather hard, although I do have a method. It involves spinning the wheel and scraping the walls whilst rhythmically lifting the tool away to dodge the jug’s lip. You can see that only YouTube video that shows the creation of these pots in full. Lastly, my hands and scraped clean of slip, as are the walls of the pot, then I gently cup my hands around the vessel, just so my palms and digits are making contact—I’m not squeezing—then I just lift it away. #jug #WIP #oddlysatisfying #howitsmade #wheelthrownpottery #studiopottery #pottery
