@cspanofficial: President Biden expressed solidarity with the Israeli people in the wake of Hamas’s terror attacks but warned against letting anger consume them. “You can’t look at what has happened here — to your mothers, your fathers, your grandparents, sons, daughters, children, even babies — and not scream out for justice. Justice must be done,” the president said Wednesday in Tel Aviv, becoming the first U.S. president to visit Israel in time of war. “But I caution this: While you feel that rage, don’t be consumed by it. After 9/11, we were enraged in the United States. And while we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes.” The president noted that difficult choices need to be made but stressed that steps must be taken to protect civilian life. “The vast majority of Palestinians are not Hamas,” he said. “Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people.” He said the U.S. was “outraged and saddened” by the Tuesday blast at a Gaza City hospital, which killed hundreds of Palestinians and sparked protests throughout the Arab world. Hamas claims the blast was caused by an Israeli airstrike, while the Israeli Defense Forces say it was the result of a rocket misfire by the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad. “Based on the information we’ve seen to date, it appears the result of an errant rocket fired by a terrorist group in Gaza,” President Biden said. President Biden also announced that he had reached an agreement with Israel to allow food, water and medicine to move into Gaza. Israel cut off all aid and fuel to the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attacks, which killed 1,400 people in Israel.
