@collectablecities: Halloween drawing! With a personal history that reads like a gothic tragedy, it’s no wonder Mary Shelley could dream up a tale as fascinating as Frankenstein. She fled England for some time in 1814 to travel Europe with her stepsister and Poet Percy Shelley; a man she was having an affair with. During a dreary week in Switzerland where their group of friends had been reading ghost stories, they decided to have a little competition writing their own fictional horrors. After days of procrastination, Mary penned the first iteration of Frankenstein which became an instant classic and first example of science fiction. #halloween #drawing
