this has been cooking for a long time… @Brittany's Minis and Fidgets and I were going back and forth about it for a while hahaha this took multiple days to complete and so long to edit but it’s finally done!! just a disclaimer: some parts about the ceteareths could be inaccurate bc I’m not involved with cosmetic science or anything like that 😭 but I did my best anyway hahaha. here are the additional tips I mentioned in the video!!: - I would use less water starting out than the recipe calls for. The OP on Rednote even said they poured off some water from their mixture, so start with about 50 grams less. If your mixture is too soft for your liking, keep cooking off more water!! - If replicating this, I would buy Ceteareth-25 instead of Ceteareth-30. According to what I read about it, Ceteareth-25 has an easier time dissolving into water, and isn’t as hard to mix. If you want a thicker gel, you just need to use less water (or more Ceteareth-25) in the mixture, no need to buy ceteareth-30 specifically. Ceteareth-25 is also more easily accessible according to my research. - My mixture isn’t fully clear and beautiful like I want it to be. I think this happened for a couple reasons. Because the ceteareth-30 was hard to mix in my first attempt and kept solidifying when I’d lift my rubber spatula from the bowl, I think I introduced a lot of air bubbles. I’m sure squishy manufacturers have lots of fancy machinery and tools to help them make these mixtures much easier without introducing so much air. Additionally, ceteareths are surfactants, meaning they will make bubbles. So if replicating this, I would try not to agitate the mixture too much, so you can avoid making bubbles that would cloud up your gel filling. Also try to avoid lifting your mixing tool out of your bowl!! What you might end up needing to do is scraping off the bubbly parts from the top when it’s all done. I ended up using these bubbly parts to make a mini crunchy squishy that I quite liked! - It is also possible that the ceteareth formulation could be contributing to creating air bubbles, or there may be an additional ingredient manufacturers use to prevent air bubbles. But honestly, if this is the case, I wouldn’t know it. - You can microwave the mixture to melt it, but I noticed this introduced air bubbles if it got too hot, so make sure to microwave it in short bursts of 10 seconds. I don’t recommend this for actually recreating the process, though. A double boiler would be best. - I also wouldn’t pipe the mixture into your squishy if you’re looking to avoid air bubbles. If you can manage it, pouring the melted liquid directly into the squishy will ensure it’s clearest. Just make sure your mixture isn’t burning hot!! Too much heat can cause TPR to degrade. and here is the ingredient list with measurements for convenience: - approximately 150 grams of water (more or less depending on the thickness you want) - 80 grams of your chosen ceteareth - 8 grams of glycerin - 2 grams of your preservative thank you guys so much for watching!! I hope this is helpful for everyone :) #fidget #asmr #squishy #squishies #fidgettoys
