10/24/26 - NYC Parks threatened to call the NYPD on our free food distro yesterday. Then our neighbors stepped in, and Parks backed down. If this is your first time hearing about us: Bronx Mutual Aid is community led and run by people who grew up here and have lived here for decades. Neighbors serving neighbors. Every Saturday since March, we set up on the public sidewalk outside St. Mary's Park, not in the park, distributing free produce, hot food, clothes and toiletries. This was our Paws and Claws Distro, so we added pet food and health screenings. That's what Parks tried to shut down. They told us to pack up

Every Saturday since March, we set up on the public sidewalk outside St. Mary's Park, not in the park, distributing free produce, hot food, clothes and toiletries. This was our Paws and Claws Distro, so we added pet food and health screenings. That's what Parks tried to shut down. They told us to pack up "right now, this very minute." Asked whose call it was to bring in more enforcement, the sergeant said, "That's my decision." Think about who was standing in that line. Elders, moms with kids, neighbors with their pets. Calling the NYPD on them is a threat of violence, and our neighbors know what the NYPD has done to Black and Latino families in the Bronx. So we didn't pack up. Our volunteers kept every station running, and our neighbors spoke up for us: we help this community, and we're doing nothing wrong. One neighbor asked the sergeant, "Do you feel threatened by your community?" By the end, the same sergeant who told us to pack up told us we were okay for today. That's community power: when a community stands up for itself, the state backs down. But this isn't the first time Parks has come after our distro, and we need you with us. Comment and tag @nycparks and @nycmayor: tell them to stop harassing Bronx Mutual Aid and let our neighbors eat. Then share this.
