With the flush of spring citrus growth, comes the following pests. 🪲Scale Insects: Scale insects feed on the sap of citrus trees. They can weaken the tree, causing reduced growth and yellowing of leaves. 🪲Aphids: Aphids feed on the sap of citrus leaves and tender shoots. They can cause distortion, curling, and yellowing of leaves. 🪲Citrus Whitefly: Citrus whiteflies feed on the undersides of citrus leaves.Heavy infestations can lead to reduced vigor, stunted growth, and leaf yellowing. 🪲Citrus Leaf Miner: Citrus leaf miners are the larvae of tiny moths that tunnel into the leaves. They create winding tunnels or “mines” in the leaves, which can reduce the tree’s ability to photosynthesize. All four pests can be easily controlled with one spray, Eco oil. Spray as per instructions on the bottle for best results (can be purchased online or at your local nursery. If you would like to make a homemade version, see bellow ⬇️ Recipe: Mix 1 cup of vegetable oil with 1 tablespoon of mild liquid soap. Usage: Dilute 2.5 tablespoons of the above mixture in 3.5 litres (1 gallon) of water. Shake well and spray tree liberally being sure to cover undersides of foliage. By keeping these insects under control, you will protect your tree from black sooty mold and ensure a thriving citrus for years to come. Found this useful?
