When someone grows up emotionally neglected, carrying a lot of unresolved trauma, it can shape how they connect with others in ways they don’t even realize. They might fall for someone hard and fast, pouring all their energy into the relationship—only to suddenly cut them off or disappear when things start to feel too close or too real. It’s not because they don’t care; it’s because vulnerability feels like danger to them. It triggers something deep inside, a fear that was wired in when their emotional needs were ignored or invalidated as a child. This is why they often attract emotionally unavailable people. They’re not consciously choosing it, but there’s this pull to “fix” others, to prove they’re worthy of love. And when things start going well, self-sabotage kicks in. Why? Because happiness or stability feels foreign—it almost feels like a trap, like it’s only a matter of time before it all falls apart. For some, this shows up as using physical intimacy to try and create emotional closeness. It’s not about sex itself; it’s about desperately wanting to feel seen, wanted, and valued. But the irony is that it leaves them feeling even lonelier. On the outside, they might look independent, like they have it all together. But deep down, there’s this emptiness—a constant feeling of being disconnected, not just from others but from themselves. This all goes back to emotional neglect. When you grow up in an environment where your feelings aren’t acknowledged or supported, you learn to bury them and put other people’s needs first. It becomes hard to trust others and, honestly, to even trust yourself. Healing this is so important because it’s not just about breaking the pattern of attracting the wrong people—it’s about finally reconnecting with you. It’s about learning to feel safe with your own emotions, so you don’t just chase love from others but actually experience it within yourself. That’s what creates real, meaningful relationships—not just with others, but with who you are at your core. #traumahealing #cptsd #childhoodtrauma #whofides #emotional #emotionalneglect #emotionalabuse #chaos #MentalHealth
