@10countriesin10years: Was it worth the hike? There are stores that lead up to the temple. This area is known for pottery with good prices for shopping. Prepare to encounter lots of tourists. You can rent kimonos. ¥400 ($2.67 USD) to explore the temple. You can't take photos inside, so please respect that. Don't be THAT tourist. You need to take off your shoes. There are great views and a very scenic walk through the temple/grounds.
