To answer your question, yes, a lot of it is instinctual as they are natural born trackers. They’re gifted with the strongest nose out of all the breeds & are physically built for it with their long ears & floppy skin which help catch the scent & waft to their nose. That being said, to keep their skills & nose sharp, training is definitely necessary especially if you want them to track on command:)
