🎈WHAT TO DO?🎈 In my experience as a pediatric PT who is specialized in sensory integration (SI), one of the most important and most effective tools to have in your toolbox for good baby/child sleep is knowing how to implement SI exercises in your everyday life with your child, whether they are 5 weeks, 10 months, 3 years or 8 years old. SI exercises and play is beneficial for all children. But if you notice that your baby or toddler hasn’t had their movement needs met during the day and therefore is very restless and needs to move around at naptime or bedtime, then these exercises are especially relevant. ❗️Please know that just because your child is restless it doesn’t mean that you’re not doing a good enough job of offering your child movement during the day. It just means that your child either has a particularly high need for movement or that your child has a particularly high need for stimulation of one or more of their three primary senses. This is common and not a cause for concern and can be helped with the right kind of sensory input during the day❗️ 💤If your child is 5 weeks to 2 years old, you’ll find the relevant SI exercises in my video based online program “Develobaby - Sleep”. The program also contains a bunch of best practice tips for better baby sleep. 💤If your child is 2-9 years old, you will find the relevant exercises shown on a preschooler in my program “Sensory Integration”. In this program you will also find a wide range of ideas for sensory-motor activities, knowledge about sensitive children, as well as tips for a sustainable pedagogical approach to children with sensitivity and/or motor restlessness.
