I took a glass casting class and the molds we used were plaster and silica mix and we put crushed glass in and never had an issue cracking.

when I did casting we used plaster molds reinforced with fiberglass to prevent cracking, but I only made one cast so I don't know if they're multi-use

Slip moulds are usually made from potters plaster. You can make a mould by pressing your 3D printed coaster in to a slab of clay then firing that :)

Ceramic molds are usually used to slip cast, not so much in the kiln. if you make your own from ceramic clay, I suggest stoneware clay or ....

slip cast molds are made of plaster and don’t go in the kiln. the clay is removed from the mold after casting and put in the kiln on its own.

So it seems like that is a plaster mold for ceramic slip casting. the other mold you had is a ceramic piece that was slip cast from a plaster- 1

oh noooo, you should have made a silicone mold of the design first just in case. Then you could recreate it with a mold that would work for glass! 🥰

slip cast molds for pottery are just plaster, they've not been in a kiln at all so they can't take the heat unfortunately 🥺
