this is actual "negative reinforcement" according to classical conditioning. (we often confuse negative reinforcement with punishment.)

Omg my parents used to do this. I would borrow money and would always give back the change and they would say “that’s nice of you to bring it back. Keep it”

as a teacher, when my kindergartners do an exceptional job of cleaning the classroom, I pack their backpacks for them. for some reason they love it 😂
