The real depressing thing here, it’s a 2022 w/ not so many miles with a possible expensive repair. That is what sucks with all modern diesels.

the rocker arm tips are brazed on. the braze broke on one of the arms. not very common but it happens on the l5p

The fact that when he lets off the pedal, The noise slows and then stops for a bit and then starts back up again. that tells me it's not a valve.

Try ramping up rail pressure. Have heard similar noises on 17 and up L5P injection pumps.
