I’d love to know why the writers chose Greece. I’m sure it because of the historical myth and plays. I love they included the classic Greek chorus.

Wiki says it's claimed Mamma Mia is based on a 1968 film. Mamma Mia is set in Greece and not Italy to make the connection less obvious.
