@louisianacrawfishco: A little history 👇 The pirogue, akin to a canoe, originated with the Native Americans in Louisiana’s swamps and marshlands. French explorers and settlers later adapted and refined its design. Crafted from a cypress log, the pirogue was quite hefty, often weighing thousands of pounds. Differing from canoes with its flat bottom, the pirogue was adept at navigating over swampy obstructions. It became a versatile vessel in the region, used for hunting, fishing, the fur trade, and traversing narrow waterways. While some pirogues were equipped with sails, the majority were propelled by paddling or poling. 👀 Shoot us a message if you’d like one built.
