I often get asked to recommend a product that does not contain “pore clogging” ingredients. The reality is that there’s no such thing as 100% pore clogging ingredients. The problem is that the studies that produced these famous pore clogging ratings don’t reflect real-world usage, for a number of reasons. The most common test for pore clogging ingredients is the rabbit ear test performed in 1970. Various ingredients were tested on the inner part of the rabbits ear and conclusions were made if an ingredient cloggs pores or not. Because rabbit ears are more sensitive than human skin, they reacted to comedogenic products faster. Some ingredients that do absolutely no harm to human skin ended up appearing in this pore clogging list because they did cause such reaction on rabbits ears. Today scientists admit that rabbit’s ear test is not the most accurate way how to determine if the ingredient is comedogenic. Secondly, raw ingredient and ingredient in a final product is not the same thing and cause completely different reactions. Concentration and quality of raw ingredient matters. Final formula of the product matters. If Shea butter in one cream clogs pores, that absolutely doesn’t mean that it will clog pores in another cream. Lastly, each individual reacts differently to the ingredients. Our skin’s microbiome is unique, you’ll never find 2 persons with identical skin’s microbiome. That means, that if Shea butter clogs pores for one person, that doesn’t mean it will do the same for you. ❗️That’s why it’s absolutely impossible to determine if one particular product will clog your pores, especially based off comedogenicity list. . . . . . . #cloggedpores#poreclogging #porecloggingingredients #pores#enlargedpores#skincare#skincarecommunity#skincareroutine #skincaremyth#porecloggingskincare#comedogenic#noncomedogenic#oilyskin#acneproneskin#acnetreatment#acnesolution#acneproblems#skincaretips#skincareadvice#skincareproducts #porecloggingmakeup #porecloggingskincare#comedogeniclist#skincarejunkie #skincareblogger
