They are going to go the quickest and safest route in most situations which is taking out the car seat through cutting the attachments, or if it still functions clicking it out. If there is no imminent danger, usually the child will stay in place. It is imperative to prioritize safe child restraints within a carseat for this reason. These are designed for impact, but with a puffy coat inbetween a child and their safety harness it can reduce the effectiveness of the car seat. Always opt for a jacket that goes over the safety harness rather than inbetween child and harness.
