Endurance workouts might seem more grueling simply because you put in more mileage, but fast sprint sets really test your cardiovascular fitness. Now Middle-/Long-Distance want to create a balance between technique and the highest speed possible which can be maintained. Here are 3 must have‘s for middle distance swimmers: 1️⃣ Endurance and Pacing - The best overall times come from relatively even pacing because fatigue increases over distance so steady pacing means effort must intensify throughout the race 2️⃣ DPS - Maximisation of distance per stroke; other than in sprinting you want to focus on a longer and more efficient stroke rather than torque/spin of the arms 3️⃣ Alignement of Kicking and Breathing to the Stroke - The importance of the kick towards propulsion shifts to become more of a counterbalance to the stroke, instead of kicking rapidly as you would during a sprint like 6-beat kicking and more that shifts towards 6-beat kick and less.
