Not only do queer Palestinians exist (obviously) but they also exist smack dab within the resistance. But don’t get it twisted, their sexuality becomes a problem MOSTLY when Israel gets involved. The shame of being caught on camera having sex, plus the intense coercion by Israeli intelligence to cooperate, ends up forcing these people to become informants. This reporting leaves me with complicated feelings. Ultimately, Israel puts a huge target onto queer Palestinians by creating a situation where there’s an association between being queer and being a traitor when they, in fact, force this to be the situation. There are tons of examples that I personally know of queer people in Palestine who live with support - the idea that Arabs or Muslims are particularly homophobic is a lie used against us. Queer Palestinians are more than just queer. In their context, many I have spoken to express that their strongest connection to identity is to the land of Palestine.
