By far, the question I get asked the most is…but what about loose skin? I have some…loose skin and cellulite. As we age, we can’t expect our skin is going to look like it did when we were 25 or 35 or even 45… Setting expectations and embracing / accepting ourselves and the aging process is a big part of the journey that isn’t talked about nearly enough We just gotta love ourselves, my Midlife Sisters! BUT…I did (and do!) things that have really minimized the loose skin and cellulite that I have today at age 55 (For reference, I’m 5’11…I lost 50lbs and went through a total body transformation at age 50). THE SKIN GAME CHANGER: I focused on fat loss vs weight loss…meaning when I lost my weight, I did so slowly and deliberately. I prioritized my protein intake so I could support retaining and building lean muscle while I shed my body of fat. I started weight training (5x a week) on the same day I started my weight loss journey naturally through tracking macros. This combined with the above meant I was signaling my body to lose fat and keep my muscle. You see…your body doesn’t want to lose just fat when you’re in a deficit…it wants to lose what’s easiest. And when weight loss happens fast or without adequate protein / weight training, your body will pull from both fat and muscle to make up the difference. When your muscle shrinks, loose skin and cellulite becomes more noticeable. I was able to minimize this. And, my skin has continued to fill out / improve over the years as I’ve continued to focus on putting more lean muscle on my body. BONUS: Muscle also helps promote collagen production AND it helps with the look of skin thickness and elasticity 💪🏻 Other things I do: Collagen every day Hydration…makes a big difference in your skins appearance Adequate sleep…this is when repair happens and collagen production increases Focus on eating whole, natural foods to minimize inflammation Helpful? Aging is such a GIFT We are so much more than the appearance of our skin. All of us are unique…unique starting points, bodies and genetics. The most important thing is…don’t let anything steal your joy. You are beautiful ❤️ #midlifetransformation #fitnessjourney #genxfitness
