@laurencutts.art: Until I first got this question, I never considered breaking it down in steps. I just started doing it. So I experimented to see what works + how I got it to work the way it does. Yes, oil dries & gets tacky too fast to wait to smear it. I do not have time to wait a few days. After an 8-10 hr sometimes 13 hour painting session I have to smear immediately.
