day in the life of a marketing manager living in los angeles, ca ✨ this vlog is a bit of a special vlog. It’s the first time all three of my best friends and I got together this year so ofc I had to document it. as I grow older, the less I get to see my best friends. being an adult means making plans months in advance and sometimes still rescheduling due to unforseen circumstances. I’m so glad that this trip made it out the group chat, successfully 🤍 I remember when I first moved to LA, I became friends with someone who didn’t have a single long term friendship. that was hard for me to believe because I’ve been best friends with my girls for at least 10+ years. Sure, sometimes it’s situation based, maybe there aren’t many people to be friends with but for this situation let’s just say, people left her for their own valid reasons. I rememeber I was talking to someone and was asked how my best friends from home were doing and I said something along the lines of my besties filling up my cup so much that even if I didn’t have friends in LA, I wouldn’t feel lonely. The friend overheard my statement, got hurt by it, and ended up going home. (Additional context: we’ve only known each other for like 3ish months?) I was confronted the next morning saying my statement was insensitive and that she felt like I didn’t need her as a friend. If that’s what she felt, that’s valid. There were alot of things I didn’t like about the confrontation but i’ll keep that to myself. I’ll never forget that confrontation. Not because what she felt wasn’t valid, not because I felt thrown off by it, but because I realized that not everyone has the blessing of having a core group of best friends since childhood. That maybe it can be an insecurity to some. What’s baseline to me might not be so baseline to someone else. I know that sounds like common sense but that concept really struck me when this person confronted me. I guess the TLDR of this is that my best friends from home truly set the bar/standard of deep, meaningful friendships so high that it’s really hard to find something just as deep as an adult. I’m so grateful to have them by my side. I’d like to say, if you have long term best friends, do not take them for granted. It takes intentional effort, communication, trust, love, and support, especially as an adult to maintain relationships, shower them with your love and appreciation too. Acknowledge the things and the people that have been around you for so long. To close it off, i still stand by my statement. My best friends genuinely fill my cup so much that i’m not scared to try new things or move to new places because I know that they’re rooting for me no matter what.
