That DI nozzle could have been dirty impacting the spray pattern - washing the cylinder wall- causes bore scuffing and you then lose oil control.

I think another point is quality oil too! You could change the oil often but if it's junk oil it turns black and varnish all the parts internally.

if oil is coming past the rings that's not going to stuff the piston skirt, a faulty injector washing the top of the piston and the oil off the skirt

Oil cap and hard varnished dip stick gives away most neglected engines. Slick salesman may change both. Agree, scope and compression

As 5.3 ecotec owner, These engines get a bad rap when they’re not awful. Just very low tolerance for bad maintenance. Hence why this motor went bad.

If you’re going to use extended drain it has to be supported with analytical testing. I’ve had UOA’s come back fully serviceable at 10K miles
