@od_form: 📏 Old Carpenter’s Split Tip: To easily divide a piece into equal parts, find a number that is easily divisible by your desired number of pieces. Here, I’m dividing the piece into three equal parts. I align the 0 and 9 on each end of the piece, as 9 is easily divisible by 3, and mark at 3 and 6. For two parts, I might choose 10 (easy to halve) and mark at 5. For four parts, pick 12 (divisible by 4) and mark at 3, 6, and 9. Align the marks with a square to draw the lines, or make two points, one upper and one further down on the plank, and use a ruler to draw between the marks. I first learned this trick when marking out the dovetails.
