Two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman has died. The sheriff of Santa Fe County told the local newspaper "Santa Fe New Mexican" that the actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their house in the US federal state of New Mexico. According to reports, the couple died together with their dog. A cause of death was not initially given, but there is currently no evidence to suggest a foul play. Hackman was 95 years old, Arakawa was 63. Gene Hackman's acting career spanned six decades. He won an Oscar for Best Actor in the thriller "The French Connection" (1971) and Best Supporting Actor in Clint Eastwood's western "Unforgiven" (1992). Hackman received further Oscar nominations for roles in "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967), "No Song for My Father" (1970) and "Mississippi Burning" (1988). Hackman was considered one of Hollywood's greatest character actors. He also played roles in blockbusters such as the "Superman" films from the 1970s and 1980s, in which he played the villain Lex Luthor. In 2004 he announced his retirement from acting. He was married twice, to his second wife, the concert pianist Betsy Arakawa, since 1991. Gene Allen Hackman was born on January 30, 1930 in San Bernardino, California, the son of a printer. He grew up in a small town in Illinois. Even as a boy, Hackman liked to say, he had a fervent desire to become an actor and emulate his role model Errol Flynn. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the US Marines, the so-called Leathernecks. Back in civilian life, he studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse. #genehackman #betsyarakawa #dead #newmexico #santafe #actorslife #iconic #fyp #foru #foreyoupage #rip #foreverinourhearts
