The only time I did that was when I needed a specific part. 98 explorer with a 5.0 mustang swap. the dip stick tube it different lengths.

I walk in with a list of part numbers, then they ask for year make and model. than I tell them this and they decide to use the part numbers

my local oreiles got fed up with that so when they asked for 350 parts they where always given vortec 350 parts which are not backwards compatible
