I teach phonics through LW scheme & we say almost an ‘oo’ sound for w & what sounds like yee for Y. If you say yo-yo it’s the first sound you make.

W y are different we don’t sound them like that we did in past , but love this and agree much easier for kids to read 44 sounds vs 26 alphabet ❤️
