@unpalestinecommittee: UN Exhibit to Remember the Palestinian Nakba "This is a day for reaffirming international solidarity with the #Palestinian people and their right to live in peace and dignity", said the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General today at UN Headquarters, in an event marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Delivering a statement on behalf of the Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, said, “As we mark this annual occasion for the 45th time, we must reflect on our collective failure to realize the inalienable rights of Palestinian people and enable them to live in peace and dignity.” Also, today in New York, an exhibit entitled “Palestine – a Land with a People” was opened to visitors. The exhibit commemorates the Palestinian #Nakba (meaning catastrophe), a deeply traumatic event which took place during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, when more than half of the Palestinian people were expelled from, or fled their homes and became refugees. "It's an important reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold the International Law in relations to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." said Mohammed Khaled Khari, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, opening the exhibit.
