@livingwellwithdrmichelle: Removing teeth for braces can cause major problems down the road... A few of my patients yesterday were experiencing severe sleeping issues. After some digging, I found all of these patients also had multiple teeth removed when they had braces. Removing these teeth caused their mouth to become smaller, limiting space for the tongue, palate, and soft tissue which ultimately caused them to get in the way of the airway. This won’t be the case for everyone, but it is the issue for some. There are also many other causes of sleep and airway issues. So, in most cases, I recommend avoiding removing teeth for braces and trying to help the mouth fit all your teeth with things like a palate expander.
