@changedbygrief: Replying to @caylie just because you dont see something doesnt make it untrue. Someone’s experience is not always the whole reality. our perceptions are inherently biased. I’d imagine Caylie has spent no time in the #NICU, the #PICU, #palliativecaremedicine I would imagine Caylie is talking about people she sees in her community, kids she went to school with, people she sees on tiktok, instagram or Netflix. Those are mostly healthy, high functioning folks. Those are folks that survived the surgeries or had no surgeries. So many people walk around this planet so very unaware of their own biases. Unaware of all the ways in which our: country of origin, race, ethnicity, culture, language, socio economic status, religion, education, profession, city/town/county/state influences the way perceive the world. Our world would be a much more peaceful place if we were all able to zoom out, suspebd our judgment and see how out #perception is oftentimes not #reality #perceptionvsreality #biasescheck #biased #biasedmedia #abortionisessentialhealthcare

PICU doc here. Absolutely. People only “see” people with T21 who have minimal comorbidities and who are “high functioning.”

I don’t know how you stay calm…people are acting like you terminated a healthy trisomy 21 pregnancy. That wasn’t the case, why does no one get that?🫠

People forget that at the end of the day, it’s YOUR decision and their opinions are only that, opinions. You did what was right for your family. 1/2

I’m sure there are people with DS that are thriving! That doesn’t change your baby’s individual prognosis. Every case is different. I’m so sorry.

This reminds me of my neighbours. They had a child my age with downs and growing up we all accepted her as one of the kids, it was all normal.
