it depends on what the additive is. If it's an injector cleaner, yes it works.

What about oil additives? I say change your oil at the proper intervals, but got a friend that swears by Lucas Oil Stabilizer

I do a 2 part fuel injection on my truck every oil change and I was able to get my MPG from 9 MPG-16.5 MPG and I service my own truck
