Do you not get the school calendar in advance? Schools rarely do anything last minute unless it’s a snow day etc. my advice is plan ahead.

They still have to go a certain amount of minutes/days per year. It is all spread out and they shorten the summer to allow for these days.

I agree with you that the DISTRICT, aka the ADMINISTRATION is making it impossible for both parents and teachers. 1/2 days are chaos all around.

My school has 0 1/2 days! I teach fulltime and cherish holiday breaks! Everyone needs 2 weeks off. I love being with my family.
