The Immigration Minister #RobertJenrick quit this week over the new law, which he says isn’t strong enough. Former Home Secretary #SuellaBraverman agreed with Jenrick, claiming it would not effectively stop Channel crossings. On Wednesday 15 November, the #SupremeCourt ruled the UK government’s previous Rwanda deportation policy was unlawful. “This is because there are substantial grounds for believing that asylum seekers would face a real risk of ill-treatment by reason of refoulement to their country of origin if they were removed to Rwanda,” it read. The #PrimeMinister said in a press conference today (7 December) that next Tuesday’s vote on the #RwandaBill will not be treated as a confidence vote in his government. #ukgovernment #tories #conservatives #lgbtnews
