It's illegal to walk on the tracks in most countries. The Railway Safety Act in Canada covers this. Most US states have similar laws.

also when I was a kid we built a fort in the trees right beside the tracks and they literally stopped the train to look and thought it was cool

there is no trespassing law for being on the tracks cause I have ran into many people that work for the railroad and they say you can walk the tracks
