I’ve been doing that for years, a good magnet, and a vertical laser level. Cut right in the middle of the stud, even take the screws out and remove the drywall.

mine lasted a week before the coating on the magnet started coming off. plus it left marks in the walls I used it on. great idea but I feel like it missed slightly. just my opinion.
