Just buy a cheap eprom reader and change the vin on that cheap instead of screwing up the radio.

Last Chevy I did I took my new faceplate and put it on old radio and it didn’t need to be programmed

come on man no solder? that IC component u removed is a reprogrammable ST chip an arduino and some hex editing software could’ve retained the function

How do you know which 8-pin EEPROM to remove? There are sometimes more than one.
