When you feel caught between an intense love for your children and motherhood, but also feeling that it’s not the only thing you need to feel completely whole, it’s easy to feel like a failure. But the reality is motherhood should add to who you are, not replace her. The last thing I want to pass on to my children is the idea that ceasing to exist is the highest form of love. But they will learn how to love and just how much they’re allowed to exist as a parent through the example we set for them. And like Carl Jung said “There is no greater burden on a child than the unlived life of a parent.” You are a whole human. With an identity and needs that weren’t meant to just evaporate when you became a mother. You deserve to prioritize and love yourself the way you have loved and prioritized everyone else too mama. Not just for your kids sake. Just for you. Remember to show up for you, while showing up for them. You’ve got this mama.
