Purple worm poison is tied for the 3rd most expensive poison in all of 5e. There’s no way a level 2 char would have ever seen it.

There are major kings that never see purple worm poison. It is essentially mythological until level 10, minimum. for my games, of course, you have fun

It says in the rules that once the conjured object takes or deals damage it disappears, so it would have to be handled carefully if coating a weapon

Add an instability rule, have them dedicate alchemy time, knowing of and creating the chemical composition is 2 different things.
