1500 gold is equivalent to roughly 150,000 US. so that may work once or twice in very specific towns but most smiths don't have that kind of money?

Now good luck selling even a tiny amount of that plate armor. Any kingdom that has enough money to do so, will also have their own smithing wizards to make it for themselves.

I would love it as a GM. The character can buy the raw material and than find out, most people are not able to buy the plate armor and want 1/2
