@bizbrunei: One of Brunei’s business icons Allahyarham Hj Adnin, the founder of the Adinin Group of Companies, passed away on December 17. Adinin is one of the first - and today one of the largest - bumiputra turnkey contractors for the oil and gas and government sectors. Five years ago, Hj Adnin welcomed our team to his workshop outside his home along Jln Mumong in KB. Then 86-years-old, he spoke enthuastically about his latest venture Maha Seramik, the only commercial ceramic operation in the country. Hj Adnin began his entrepreneurial journey in his 50s, after serving 33 years as a government nurse. Wanting to get a foothold in the oil and gas industry, Hj Adnin began working as an admin assistant for a Chinese contractor in the 1980s. He credits the learnings from this job—being prudent, dependable and humble—as the foundation for his first major breakthrough, which was supplying and doing industrial paintwork. Working together with his son Hj Musa, the Adinin Group recorded many firsts as a local contractor for the Brunei Shell Joint Venture companies. The legacy of Hj Adnin lives on through the achievements of the Adinin family. Today, Hj Musa, and his son Hafriz, have carved out their own success stories, earning ASEAN Business Awards for their own achievements in the industry. _________ It was a privilege to be able to tell the story of Hj Adnin.
