@purposefirstbeachcleanup: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and California. Marine debris is littler that ends up in the oceans, seas, and other large bodies of water. It is also known as the Pacific trash vortex. It collects trash from all around the world because this zone is where the warm water from the south meets with the cooler water from the Arctic. These patches are made up of larger pieces of trash but mainly made up of smaller pieces of micro plastics which can just make the water look like cloudy soup, but is also mixed with larger items like fishing gear and shoes, etc. Underneath this is an underwater trash heap because most marine debris sinks..... 😅 It is nearly impossible to get rid of the patch, especially with all the small fish and sea creatures living in it, but what we can do is help prevent the patch from growing by doing what we can to keep more trash out of the ocean. 🌎
