@qeusaofficial: Look ma, no hands! Blade and steer control, now we don’t know what to do with our hands. More to come on this, stay tuned! If you aren’t familiar, gps is commonly used to build to plan elevations through controlling the blade of a dozer. With GPS corrections and IMU’s throughout the dozer, the machine knows exactly where the blade is at all time. Pair that with a model that has all of the plan grades in it and you can cut or fill to the exact design needed While this is a common practice, autonomy only controls the vertical aspect. As of recently, CAT and Trimble now allow horizontal autonomy. What this means in simple is: if you don’t have gps you use both hands, if you have gps with vertical autos you use one hand, if you have gps with vertical autos and steer control you use no hands. You are literally along for the ride This not only makes the operators life easier, but gets us one step closer to efficiently running a site from a remote location! · · · #workthedirt #digitdigitalgps #earthmover #earthmoving #earthmovers #bluecollar #bluecollarlife #bluecollarnation #bluecollarnation #bluecollarlifestyle #construction #constructionlife #constructionsite #constructionequipment #heavyequipment #heavyequipmentlife #heavyequipmentnation #heavyequipmentoperator #heavyequipmentmechanic #heavyequipmentphoto#dirtnerd #buildwitt

GPS is used because the new generation can’t read grade or blue prints or feel the machine like the older ones. All dozers now are fly by wire on the joystick controls.

You might be able to free hand as smooth as GPS, but you’re fooling yourself if you think you can eyeball a 1/2% slope any distance.

I’m 22 and use gps but in all honesty I prefer no gps. GPS messes up more than the operator does. I wish we could go back to using stakes.

The work I did for years GPS WAS useless! It don’t help move rocks the size of cars ! Sometimes takes two 11’s to get one rock off the edge of the coal ! When they can’t shoot the outside !
