Here’s how you can think about the decision: Number 1: What are you optimizing for? Is it: Money? Global work experience? More freedom? Or just a change? Whatever it is, get clear on your why. Everything else follows from that. Don’t think about your parents’ reasons. Think about yours. Number 2: Can you handle ambiguity? U.S. immigration isn’t for the faint-hearted. You’ll need to secure and maintain a stable work visa. You’ll have to file taxes in two countries. And you might wait years, sometimes even decades, for a green card. Number 3: Understand the pros and cons there are some great things about living in the U.S., but there are also some big challenges. You get cleaner air, better roads and infrastructure, and more efficient systems overall. Electronics and cars are cheaper, work tends to be more global in nature, and you’ll experience a lot more cultural diversity. But it’s not all upside. You won’t have domestic help. Everything from dishes to daycare is on you. Healthcare is shockingly expensive, even with insurance. Visa stress is a constant. Outside a few cities, a car is non-negotiable. And the cost of living can be significantly higher than in India. So Ask yourself: - What am I optimizing for? - Can I handle ambiguity? - Will this get me closer to the life I want in 5 years?
