🥹 “They’re all alive!” For nine days, no one knew if the twelve boys from Thailand’s Wild Boars soccer team and their assistant coach had survived after rising monsoon floodwaters trapped them inside Tham Luang Cave. On July 2, 2018, British cave divers John Volanthen and Rick Stanton reached a muddy ledge nearly 2.5 miles (4 km) from the cave entrance, where all 13 were waiting in darkness. The exchange that followed lasted only a few seconds: “How many of you?” “They’re all alive.” “Thirteen.” “Brilliant.” Finding them was only the beginning. The passages leading out were completely flooded, with some so narrow that divers had to remove their own air tanks to squeeze through. Because many of the boys couldn’t swim and the journey was so dangerous, doctors made the difficult decision to lightly sedate each child while experienced cave divers guided them one by one through the submerged cave. Over the next eight days, an international team of more than 10,000 people—including cave divers, engineers, doctors, military personnel, and volunteers—worked together in one of the most complex rescue operations ever attempted. On July 10, 2018, the final boys and their coach emerged safely from the cave. 🧡 Follow for history you can still feel. #History #ThaiCaveRescue #Humanity #Rescue #ThisDayInHistory
