I will be 77 in March and my brother 71. We are taking care of our 102 year old mother on our own. She has hospice but…bath aid two times a week and one nurse visit. I’m exhausted.

It’s $4000 a week for my mother and she is in assisted living! She is rich and we pay out of pocket. Thank goodness she has money - we don’t.

It’s costing us 15,000 a month for my mother at home ! It’s madness.

True. Five days a week for less than an hour if you’re lucky. The rest falls on the family.

My dad had 24 hour care during hospice at home, he had a long term care policy that helped! It’s expensive!

I am a private hospice care worker. I always work with the families. I have taken $10 per hour. Normal for me is $15.

This happened to me. My mom was on hospice and I literally thought we were going to have a lot of help. We didn’t. It was all me and my family. Very scary. I still can’t wrap my head around it. 😢

Both of my parents died at home under hospice care. It was very traumatic for me😳

What happens if they don’t have family to take care of them?

I was very blessed that I was able to take a FMLA and take care of my father 24/7, when he went into hospice at home. I was so happy that I had that time with him. Bless you for what you do.

Exactly. I quit my job and moved in with daddy to take care of him. Not to mention the trauma of seeing my dad suffer and die

That’s very true. I was alone with my dad the night he died. It was awful.

My dad died at home. We had to care for him with a nurse coming 2x a week. We barely did it. there was 4 of us pitching in.

I bought long term care - my plan is to use it for the 24 he care - am I missing something? Rich or have LTC coverage, correct?

A lot of misunderstanding what hospice does for the general public

Paying for round the clock care for dad at home was nearly $900. A DAY!!

Yep I spent my entire inheritance to pay for 24/hr care so my mom could be home instead of in LTAC.

True. We have been caring for my dad. I needed major surgery which left my 84 year old mother taking care of my bed ridden dad. We will always care for each other but this is grueling.

I can’t express how grateful I am for the hospice facility in my town, though I wish my dad had the option to stay home because he knew he couldn’t afford 24hr care even before hospice

I’m a CNA/HHA in Hospice and it breaks my heart to see how some people die alone with little support for this reason. 💔💔💔
