He tries to balance college and being Earth's primary defender under Cecil Stedman, the ruthless director of the Global Defense Agency. The Sequids & Angstrom Levy: Mark faces multi-dimensional threats, specifically Angstrom Levy, a man who can travel the multiverse and blames Mark for his disfigurement. Their rivalry leads to Mark’s first "no-kill" rule break. Reunion: Mark eventually finds Nolan on a distant planet where Nolan has started a new family. They are attacked by Viltrumite scouts, and Nolan is taken prisoner by the Empire. Mark returns to Earth with his new half-brother, Oliver. 3. The Viltrumite War This is the "Avengers: Endgame" of the series. Mark, a reformed Nolan, and the Coalition of Planets take the fight to the Viltrumite Empire. The war is incredibly bloody and ends with the destruction of the planet Viltrum. The Twist: The remaining Viltrumites (only about 30 odd left) realize they can’t win by force. Their leader, Thragg, decides they will hide in plain sight on Earth, interbreeding with humans to rebuild their population over thousands of years. Mark is forced to agree to a shaky truce to avoid Earth's total destruction. 4. The Robot/Monster Girl Era While Mark is dealing with cosmic issues, his "friend" Robot and Monster Girl spend centuries in a different dimension where time moves faster. They return changed. Robot decides that the only way to save Earth from itself is to rule it as a "benevolent" dictator. He systematically executes almost every hero and villain who opposes him. Mark, disgusted by Robot’s "math-based" tyranny but unable to stop him without killing millions, eventually leaves Earth with Atom Eve and their daughter to live in space. 5. The End of All Things (The Finale) The story jumps ahead in time. Thragg has spent years breeding an army of half-Viltrumite children on a different planet to take back the empire. The Final Battle: It’s an all-out war between Thragg’s forces and Mark’s coalition. It culminates in a fight between Mark and Thragg inside the sun. Mark barely survives, but Thragg is incinerated. The Legacy: Mark takes over as the Emperor of the Viltrumites. Unlike his ancestors, he uses the Viltrumite power to actually bring peace to the galaxy. The final issue is a montage showing Mark living for thousands of years, watching his children grow, and turning the most feared race in the universe into its greatest protectors. He ends the story not just as a hero, but as a legend who fixed a broken universe
