Three years ago I got to a point where I really couldn’t stand myself anymore. I knew there was no changing my life unless I got rid of alcohol. It had held me back for most of my life and I knew that if I kept drinking, none of the other things I wanted for myself were actually going to happen. So on June 19, 2023 I quit. This is the longest I’ve ever been sober and weirdly it’s gone by the fastest because I haven’t spent the whole time counting days. I wasn’t trying to make it to 30 days or 6 months or a year…I had a bigger goal in my head. I wanted to create the best life I possibly could and become the best version of myself I possibly could. And little by little, every decision I’ve made over the past three years has changed my life. Social media has actually been a huge part of that for me too. I went from barely being able to look at myself in the mirror to filming myself constantly, watching myself back, putting myself out there, making mistakes, feeling embarrassed, doing it again anyway. What started as me just wanting to feel good in my body ended up changing me from the inside out. And if I’m being completely honest, this summer has had me wrestling with my sobriety a little more than I have in a while. I’ve noticed that when I don’t have a crush on a man, a trip to plan, an outfit to buy, something exciting to look forward to, my brain starts searching for something to fill that space…and sometimes it still wants a substance. The difference now is I can recognize that feeling…I know what it is and I know I don’t have to act on it. So I move my body…a lot. I get outside and I focus on what I’m building. I think about the life I still want to create instead of reaching for something that will make me disappear from it for a little while. Three years alcohol free and still learning how to be fully present in a life I don’t want to escape from. #sober #alcoholfree #transformation #GlowUp
